Athlete’s Foot

Athlete foot is a fungal infection which can affect the feet or cause itchiness during running or jogging. The fungus that causes athlete’s foot thrive more in moist and warm environment. It is common with people who take part in sporting activities. This disease is contagious, so, it can be spread from one person to another. People are likely going to get it when they come in contact with contaminated surfaces like socks, shoes and even the floor. If you stay more in sporting environment, you have to be very careful as you are more likely to have the disease. Ensure you keep your feet clean, change socks regularly and you shoes should not be every day thing, get more pairs. In case you already got the disease, you don’t have to worry as there are several products available over the counter that can help tackle the disease. Essentially if you keep up a proper hygiene you can be able to get rid of the disease in a short period.

Your Foot Wear

The footwear you put on especially your socks can cause your feet to itch while running. However, it depends on your skin. Some skin are more sensitive than others, if you have a very sensitive skin, your skin is more likely to itch when it comes in contact with chemicals on the foot wears. What causes the itch most times is the kind of detergents you use in washing the socks or doing the laundry. If you notice this as the cause of the itch on the feet, change the laundry detergent to reduce the itching.
Also, the type of foot wear you put on can also cause itchy feet. When shopping for your footwear, you go for footwear that allows air to the feet and try as much as possible to stay off footwear made from synthetic materials especially when your skin is sensitive. Your workout socks should be those made from cotton or other materials which are soft on sensitive skin.

Avoid Dehydration

Itching on the feet while running may be as a result of dehydration. Dehydration can cause the feet to dry. And dry feet cause the skin of the feet to itch. Exercising can cause you to lose water on your body, which of course includes your feet. So, drink the right quantity of water required by your body daily to keep the feet hydrated.

Are you so uncomfortable with your itchy feet?

Itchy feet can make you uncomfortable when they occur. The skin tends to itch when they are dry. This occur more when there is cold weather or during winter. For those who live in the tropical regions of the world where temperature is high, they tend to have dry feet especially in harmatan seasons. At this time, the skin becomes dehydrated and thereby causing the skin on your feet to itch.

Since the feet usually get dried during winter, it is necessary to to prevent and soothe the condition. Here is how to go about it:
  • Drink the right quantity of water daily. I used the word “right quantity” because the amount of water you are expected to drink depends on the weather condition in your locality. In other words it depends on the amount of water you are likely going to lose as a result of the weather condition. Drinking water is necessary to prevent the skin from getting dry.
  • Certain foods can cause allergies for you. So, it very important to watch the kind of food you eat. If you notice a reaction as a result of consuming certain food, then stop eating such food. Your doctor can help to decide whether the cause of itching on the skin of the feet is as a result of allergic reactions.
  • Dry feet can cause the feet to itch. So if you must prevent itchy feet, you must try as much as possible to protect your feet externally from drying. I have already mentioned the internal way of preventing itchy feet, which is hydration or the consumption of water. One of the ways of preventing or protecting the feet during cold weather is by wearing socks and moisturizing the feet regularly. Also make sure you protect your feet against external forces such as detergents, soaps, and other chemicals from coming in contact with the feet. Such chemical can cause the feet to itch.
  • Some medication or drugs can actually cause the feet to itch. If the drug is bought over the counter, it is important that you read the label for the side effect of the drug. Or better still, consult your doctor.
  • You must strike a balance between avoiding dry feet and sweaty feet. Avoiding dry feet does not mean you have to keep your feet soak. When the foot is damp, it makes it susceptible to diseases. One of such disease is athlete’s foot.
